DUNBARTON – David P. Gustafson, 63, of Dunbarton, passed away late Tuesday evening, June 25, 2013, at Concord Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, after a sudden illness.

Born in Manchester on Nov. 5, 1949, he was the son of the late Herbert and Alice (High) Gustafson.

Affectionately known as Gus, he graduated from Central High School and attended Plymouth State College before transferring to Keene State College to be with the love of his life, Louise P. Martineau.

After graduating in 1972, the two briefly lived in Goffstown before building a house in Dunbarton, where they raised their three children, Daniel, Aimee and Karlie.

He spent most of his career in sales before working for 15 years in the circulation department of the New Hampshire Union Leader.

A true outdoorsman, Gus knew every secret fishing hole in and around the lakes region, and loved to hike the mountains of Kearsage and Monadnock with his wife and children.

Lake Sunapee was an especially favorite spot for Gus, where he spent his summers on the water, and in the winter, never missed an opportunity to ski the trails of both Sunapee and Cannon. You could always count on seeing him downstairs at the old North Peak Lodge.

A family man through and through, he passionately loved his wife of 42 years, Lou, his three children, and just recently, had become a grandfather to triplets.

Gus leaves behind his wife, Louise, three children, Daniel Gustafson of Jackson Hole, Wy., Aimee Gustafson of Dunbarton and Karlie Pouliot and her husband Kenneth of Warwick, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Atticus Pouliot, Emerson Pouliot and Nola Grace Pouliot; a brother William Gustafson and his wife Julie of Manchester; a sister, Nancy Northridge and her husband Mark of Alton and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Karl Gustafson, in 2005.
